We can no longer ignore the fact that civilisation is having a
detrimental effect on the environment. We all have a duty to reduce
consumption and minimise waste, however this need not mean a life
devoid of pleasure, culture or excitement. James Martin called this
"eco-affluence" - living rich and rewarding lives without
harming the environment. Lokomotiv Skis is committed to this vision.
Ski building and skiing itself does not have to leave a huge footprint.
We continually review our build process, energy use and waste, along
with our suppliers, their location and environmental policies, to
determine our footprint and how we can minimise and offset our impacts.

Lokomotiv
Skis are built for the backcountry and we promote ski-touring
and snow-kiting as sustainable alternatives. |
2.
|
All
materials will be sourced locally where possible. |
3. |
We
have discontinued the use of maple supplied from North America. |
4.
|
Bamboo
wood cores will replace slow growing hardwoods. Bamboo is fast
growing (up to 2 feet per day), sustainable, light and incredibly
strong. |
5. |
Waste
is minimised through the use of CAD (computer aided draughting)
to maximise raw material usage. |
6.
|
We pledge to plant
a tree for every pair of skis made, through the support of
environmental groups involved in forest regeneration.
|
Through these environmental initiatives
we hope to reduce waste, use sustainable timber and give something
back to nature by planting a tree for each ski sold. These initiatives
will eventually form a comprehensive environmental policy where
we plan to operate Lokomotiv Skis as a fully sustainable and just
company:
the journey is equally
important as the destination.
